Kasia Bortnik was born in Wroclaw/Poland. She began to sing at the age of five in primary school with the music group: „Smieszki“. Afterwards she went to a music school first degree in Opole and took classical singing lessons by Irena Torbus. As a teenager she won (inter alia) the first price at the festival „Cantate Deo“ (Gliwice) and the first price at the „Spring Pallotin Days“ (Warsaw). After her school examination she studied Jazz Vocal at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen/Germany by Silvia Droste and graduated.

She was a singer in different projects like:
„La Voce“ with Norma Winston and Uli Beckerhoff, Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia), „Disguise“ and „Diswojdas Orchestra“ (winner of the Jazzwerk Ruhrpreis 2005). She toured in Norway, Spain, White-Russia, France, Poland, South-Korea and recorded several CDs such as „Dwa“, „Chce“ (Disguise), „Swoja, Droga & Goscie“ (Diswojdas Orchestra), Christmas Project „Koledy und das erste Weihnachtslied“ (Kasienki& Benjamin) and her solo Album“Maruszka“. Her second Album „The moon is just a fake “ will be released in 2019.

Currently she is on stage with the Kasia Bortnik Trio, the quartet Kasienki & Tuwim and the three-parts-swing trio Summerville Sisters.
